According to Wikipedia, Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month in 1984. He also appointed the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. Reagan recognized the popularity of ice cream in the United States (90% of the nation's population consumes ice cream).

Mother Nature is finally smiling on us in Northern California, let's hope she'll continue to supply us with a good excuse to consume our favorite frozen treat.

Tuiles Aux Amandes (Almond Tuiles) Recipe

Today we made some ginger ice cream in the ice cream machine we got Daddy, my father-in-law, last Father's day. The machine requires no pre-freezing, which is very convenient. I got the recipe for this frozen treat from PastryPal, which is written by Irina. We made half of the volume since it was the first time we were trying this recipe out. Irina's recipe calls for 4 egg yolks, but I wasn't about to throw away the 4 egg whites so I decide to make some almond tuiles.

Tuiles aux amandes are crisp thin cookies topped with slivered almonds. It's a great garnish for ice cream because of the texture contrast between the crispy cookie and the creamy frozen treat.

Peanut Butter Caramel Dip with Sliced Apples Recipe

Yesterday, I packed some grapes for the girls when packing their school lunches. I thought I would make something different today. I had a little leftover caramel au beurre salé from the weekend. It's a sweet caramel  sauce with salted butter. We drizzle it over ice cream. I decided to mix a little creamy peanut butter into the caramel, along with some raw honey that I just discovered at the local market.

Peanut butter caramel is a great dip with any fruit, drizzled over ice cream or even on celery. Enjoy!
