Savory Granola Salad Topping Recipe Recipe

Granola topping is a healthier, more nutritious alternative to croutons for salads. I incorporated as many, if not more, flavors as I would for the bread, using lemon thyme, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, Pecorino cheese, Italian parsley, spices and extra-virgin olive oil. After the baked savory granola had cooled to room temperature, I mixed arugula with fresh cherries as an natural sweetener, drizzled a simple lemon vinaigrette and sprinkled the salad with the crunchy savory Pecorino granola topping.

I used boxed granola mix, called Granola Basics. It’s made by our friend Sarah from "Nuts About Granola" (it's their 5th anniversary!). Ever since she sent me my first box, I've wanted to explore and develop a savory version. And if you have the opportunity to purchase this awesome product, you'll see on the back of the box one of my recipes with a photo taken by me!

Hawaiian Granola Bar Recipe Recipe

Hawaiian Granola Bar Recipe

08.21.12 by Jackie

Our friend Sarah from Nuts About Granola has launched her first-ever box-mixed granola, called Granola Basics. The concept is brilliant and a lot of fun. Start with Granola Basics, then add a sweetener such as honey, agave or maple syrup. Finish with a few tasty mix-ins such as nuts, dried fruit or chocolate and you’re done.

Of course, I wanted to test it out! In my opinion, nothing can go wrong when you mix exquisite ingredients such as Guittard chocolate, fresh coconut shavings, Hawaiian ginger syrup, candied ginger and macadamia nuts, so that’s exactly what I did. It’s not quite a trip to the Aloha State, but very satisfying nonetheless.

If you want to give this delicious one-of-kind product a try, you can participate in this week's giveaway for one box of Granola Basics. Can’t wait? Buy it online, or if you live in the Baltimore area, you can find it on Whole Foods Harbor East shelves.

Nuts About Granola (College Staple) Product Review Recipe
As a frenzied college student juggling a heavy course load, two jobs, and a social life, food is almost always an afterthought for me. That doesn’t mean I don’t care about what I eat; on the contrary, I am constantly looking for simple yet tasty treats. My recent addiction has been frozen yogurt. It’s quick, easy, healthy, and now thanks to all of the shops popping up around campus, it’s social, too! However, like all addictions, it’s burned quite the hole in my wallet. Solution: buy your favorite tart yogurt at your grocery store, and instead of paying exorbitant prices by the ounce for toppings, get a bag of granola.
