Thanksgiving Appetizers: Butternut Squash Tartlet Recipe Recipe

Thanksgiving festivities are right around the corner, so it's time to play with fall flavors. Today, I wanted to prepare a savory tart using butternut squash and finally decided to prepare individual portions because they would look even cuter and be easier to eat.

I made a regular butter crust, but I flavored it with green onions and sweet basil. I filled the mini tarts with creamed butternut squash. Then I balanced the texture with a lacy cheese topping by pan-frying slices of sharp Cheddar cheese. It was literally easy as pie.

Green Bean and Fennel Tart Recipe Recipe

I spent the entire week in Los Angeles. I took the opportunity to visit relatives and family friends, and I even ended up teaching them a couple of dishes.

The concept for this savory tart is very simple. I showed them how to make a flaky crust that took no more than 5 minutes. Then I used whatever vegetables we had on hand. This version contained thinly sliced fennel, shallots, super sweet baby bell peppers and dill for the filling. I wanted a pop of color, so as soon as the tart was fully baked, I topped it with boiled, bright green haricots verts and a few slices of homemade mozzarella. I returned it to the oven for a few minutes and we were done. What a fun way to spend Sunday in the kitchen!

Asian-inspired Mushroom Tart Recipe Recipe

Being born and raised in France with Vietnamese origins, this mushroom tart perfectly represents my two cultures. And with my husband Lulu being a vegetarian, I wanted to prepare a savory tart that fit his diet.

I prepared a regular butter crust, but I flavored it with green onions and Thai basil. I made the filling with both shiitake and king mushrooms, which have a meaty texture (especially good for vegetarian cooking). I balanced the flavors with five spice powder, sweetened condensed milk as a binder for the filling, garlic, hoisin sauce and rice vinegar. As a reminder of the flavor of the tart, once it was baked I covered it with more sliced mushrooms and added a drizzling of sesame oil for a Vietnamese twist. You could pair it with an Asian peanut red cabbage slaw to complete the meal.

Artichoke and Spinach Tart Recipe Recipe

This artichoke and spinach tart is packed with flavor. I added roasted garlic and chopped sun-dried tomatoes and covered the mixture with mozzarella. As a reminder of the flavors in the filling, I garnished the tarts with the main ingredients and a sprinkling of a few sunflower seeds for texture.

Making savory tarts is so easy when using store-bought puff pastry. Simply raid your pantry and refrigerator and smartly pair your favorite ingredients. You'll be able to accomplish two things: complete a delicious meal and get rid of leftovers at the same time!

Mushroom Mozzarella Cheese Tart Recipe Recipe

My husband Lulu is addicted to anything with puff pastry dough. Because of the horrible windy weather, I decided to prepare my version of (vegetarian) chicken soup for the soul in the form of individual mushroom and mozzarella tartlets accompanied by a bowl of warm corn chowder. It’s the perfect prescription for this cold, gray day.

This savory tartlet consists of 4 layers. First, I baked the puff pastry shells separately in the oven. I cooked the first layer of soy chorizo along with tomato paste and tomato sauce (you could also add ground beef for extra flavor if you don’t need it to be vegetarian). The second is sautéed large button mushrooms in butter and the last one is thick mozzarella slices. The result is spectacular and is really enhanced pairing it with corn soup and garlic cheese bread. You won't be disappointed!
