Strawberry Almond Summer Salad Recipe Recipe

We're back to our routine. Lulu has been focused on his work and I'm in charge of providing delicious meals for him. Last night we hosted another dinner party. To save time, I put together a healthy yet delicious strawberry and almond salad for the first course, to the delight of our guests.

Almonds are rich in protein and gave extra crunch to the salad. Strawberries provided color and natural sweetness. I wished I had found the same out-of-this-world mara des bois strawberries I had last week in Paris but thankfully the ones from our garden fit the bill wonderfully.

Throwing a dinner party doesn't have to be time-consuming. I usually try to make one elaborate dish and a quick and easy dish so I'm not too exhausted when it's time to greet our guests!

If you browse through the website, you can find many party-planning tips and recipes , especially a number of elegant appetizers.

Granola, Berry & Yogurt Parfait Recipe Recipe

With the long weekend and an extra week off of school, the big girls have been staing up late and lazing it up in bed until 11am-ish the last few days. I decided they weren’t spoiled enough, so I brought them breakfast in bed. Baby Aria and I prepared the parfaits mixing fresh berries, kiwi, granola and honey-flavored yogurt. Simple, sweet, healthy and filling.

If you feel the urge to make freshly baked granola at home, my friend Sarah at Nuts About Granola offers a "bake-it-yourself" granola kit (it costs only $3.99). It has been widely available in supermarkets on the East Coast and is also available online. I’m a huge fan of their product, and you'll actually find my recipe on the back of the box! Give it a try and you’ll be as Nuts about Granola as I am.

Salsify in Butter with Capers Recipe

Salsify in Butter with Capers

01.26.10 by Jackie

Salsify in butter is a very simple yet tasty dish. I blanch the salsify and then sauté them in butter. A little lemon and some capers balance out the flavor. I garnish the dish with curly parsley for color and voilà, a delicious 5-minute side dish is ready.

This dish reminds me of the lunch meals from the cafeteria of my elementary school in France. It was usually served au gratin, but that's another recipe. Before you start thinking that my school served incredibly gourmet food, you should know that while salsify may not be very familiar to many in the US, in France it's down right common. The flavor and texture is similar to leeks or white asparagus, but less fibrous. It's one of my favorite vegetables, and if you give it a try, you'll fall in love with it as well. Given that this it takes about 5 minutes to prepare this recipe, you have no excuse!
