Romantic and Easy Valentine's Day Menu

Feel like cooking a special meal for your special someone?  Here’s a real easy menu that’ll let you spend more time with your love than in the kitchen:

Pan Seared Artichoke with Balsamic Glaze

This is a super easy recipe that looks like a million bucks on your dinner table.  For an added bonus, put the appetizer on one plate and take turns feeding each other the leaves.

Another great starter that’s really easy to prepare is the Gratin Dauphinois.

Main Course

Magret de Canard Roti au Miel quatre épices - Honey and Spice Roasted Duck

The name may be intimidating, but the recipe is anything but.  The most time consuming part of this recipe is marinating the duck breast, and all you have to do is remember to put the bird in the marinade the night before.  Duck is not something most people eat everyday, so it’s a great way to make Valentine’s Day extra special.

Vegetarian Main Course

If your man is a vegetarian, why not make him some spinach lasagna?  It’s very filling while still being (relatively) healthy.  Comfort food can be romantic, and this preparation has great visual appeal.

Alternatively, you could make Mac n’ Cheese.  The trick to making mac ‘n cheese look great is to use the right serving dish.  I like these individual serving containers. I got them from Staub.

Ah, dessert. For something easy and sexy, you can’t go wrong with mousse.  Whether you make chocolate, banana, or whatever flavor is your favorite, he’ll have to acknowledge that he’s in the presence of a domestic goddess.

If you really want to go for the gold, there is simply no other choice than the very trendy chocolate lava cake with the molten chocolate center oozing out. It sounds difficult to make but it's actually very easy. The only hard part is taking it out of the oven at the exact right time. If this is your first time making it, you can test out your oven by making a test cake in advance. If it's cooked all the way through, pull the next ones out a few minutes sooner. If it's still mushy, leave it in for a couple more.

If chocolate's not your thing, there is always creme brulee.

Caffeine will keep you going for, well, whatever you have planned to do after your meal.  If you’re into tea, a glass of Masala Chai is the perfect choice.  Masala loosely means spice in Hindi / Urdu, and what goes better with Valentine’s Day than a little spice?

If you prefer coffee beans to tea leaves, let me suggest that you serve Vietnamese Coffee.  It is absolutely packed with caffeine and sugar.  If you decide to make this drink, you may want to pair it with a milder dessert so as not to end up in a sugar coma after your romantic meal.

And if you’re in such a rush that you don’t have time to cook for your honey. You can get the traditional Valentine’s Day gift of chocolates. The Tea Collection - 20-Piece Chocolate Assortment and 24-Piece Raspberry, Passion Fruit & Mojito Chocolate Hearts Gift Box are my favorites.

A message for men: do not give your gal this!

Happy Valentine's Day!

A kiss will do...

My sweety introduced me to duck prepared correctly. She will love the recipe. When someone puts this much effort into a meal, not to mention the accoutrements, it could only mean that the magic is still there.
