Chocolate and Orange Spritz Cookies Recipe

I love to bake cookies. And when I have free time, I usually make cookie dough to freeze so whenever we have surprise guests, I have warm cookies freshly baked out of the oven. Today, I prepared a small batch of spritz cookies, which I flavored with cocoa and orange to match the season. These "gâteaux" (cookies in French) were made with brown sugar, so once they're baked, the house is filled with the scent of delicious chocolate-y caramel.

As I've mentioned in the past, baby Aria's eating habits are very similar to my husband’s. She loves sweets. She finished almost half the batch this afternoon before the girls even got back home from school. Naughty girl!

Mango Cake Recipe Recipe

Mango Cake Recipe

This mango dessert is my way of raging against the dying of the (sun)light. Fall is here, but at least it can be summer on our dessert plates!

While I was in Paris, I had quite a few delicious clafoutis. This dessert is inspired by those treats. I caramelized a ripe mango, diced it and covered it with a clafoutis-like batter. A short time in the oven, et voilà! The spongy, sweet dessert was a fabulous feast. It's best eaten warm with a hot cup of tea. It’s also a great alternative to French toast for a lovely Sunday brunch.

Chocolate Pear Blackberry Crumble Recipe Recipe

Yesterday evening, Aria and I had a wonderful play date with Ella at my friend Thi-My's. For dessert, Thi-My prepared an apple pear chocolate crumble. The recipe I'm sharing today is a bit different, using home-grown pears, blackberry and chocolate

Thi-My and I have been friends since we were 15. We reminisced about the good old days and stared at our little girls playing with their scooters in the park next door to her apartment. Ella is two-and-a-half years old and she's such a sweetheart. She kept saying "l'autre trottinette est pour ma copine Aria" ("The other scooter is for my bestie Aria"). We melted! And we melted a second time after eating Thi-my's delicious crumble!

Berry Baklava Recipe Recipe

Berry Baklava Recipe

09.20.13 by Jackie

My husband's youngest sister loves sweets, but she often finds desserts to be too sweet for her palate. Baklava, for instance, is overwhelming for her. I found a remedy to this situation by adding berries. The fruits help balance the sweetness of the dessert by adding natural acidity.

I started by preparing a traditional baklava. Once it had cooled, I filled the dessert with a thin layer of freshly crushed berries, topped with a layer of mascarpone cheese to again reduce the sweetness (and for extra decadence) and garnished the finished product with fresh berries.

Raspberry Pot de Creme Recipe Recipe

Raspberry Pot de Creme Recipe

09.13.13 by Jackie

During our trip to Paris, I'm going to post a lot of French-inspired dishes. To end the week beautifully, let me share with you a typical French sweet treat: pot de creme. I figured this individual dessert can get a little heavy so I "lightened" it up by creating a small cavity in the center and filled it with freshly-crushed raspberries. The acidity from the fruit contrasts wonderfully with the sweetness of the custard.

Sounds easy, no? Get ready to get a lot of ooohs and ahhs with very minimal effort!
