Goat Cheese Arugula Recipe

There is something utterly delightful about this goat cheese arugula salad. The combination in the first place is  exquisite but I wanted to kick it up a notch by breading the medallions of goat cheese with crumbs of freshly baked brioche. I also added a carpaccio of mango and radish to add color to the salad.

The technique for obtaining perfectly sliced mango is nothing simpler than using thread. In my childhood, we would often use this method to slice meat pate for a clean cut, especially during the holidays. I often find myself using tools that don't necessarily belong in the kitchen, but are perfect for the job at hand.

Beef Stew Appetizers

Baby Aria is a toddler now and even though I tend to feed her soft food, I still want her to experience the different textures and flavors each meal can bring. I prepared a beef stew, which she adored, but I still had a little meat left. So I shredded it with a fork, formed little mounds and used them for appetizers.

I always have extra dough stored in my freezer (I used the same dough for my roasted butternut squash galette earlier this week). I formed little pockets by cutting rectangles of dough and pinching the edges with the back of fork. These little appetizers were so addictive that they were all gone in a jiffy.

National Appetizer Day

Did you know January 28th is National Appetizer Day? I learned this during a grocery trip to Trader Joe's. I figured I'd share with you some of my favorite appetizer recipes (among the more than 1,500 recipes already published on this site to date!) so you can get a few ideas and prepare for your big game day or your next dinner party.

Last Friday we threw a winter social party and had a lot of bite-size portions so our guests could mix and mingle. The party was such a success, people didn't want to go home! If you entertain as much as we do, I hope you'll find plenty of inspiration in this post.

Mushroom Bruschetta Recipe

Making mushroom bruschetta is a great excuse to use leftover bread with earthy, seasonal ingredients. For this version, I started with the regular procedure: I cut day-old bread into large slices, then toasted and rubbed them with garlic. But instead of using the common tomato and basil topping, I spooned on a warm mushroom mixture. I also topped the bruschetta with dry-fried Emmental cheese and drizzled on a spicy green chutney. 

The warm mushroom is flavored with onion, celery, Italian parsley, mascarpone cheese, and a drizzle of Riesling wine. You could use the same flavor combination in a savory tart or beggar's purse. Let your imagination run wild!
