Crostata with Pecan and Blueberry Pie Filling Recipe

* The memory card of my camera just crashed and that's the only picture I could recover of the crostata right before getting in the oven.

A crostata is a dessert that is filled with jams or fruits and its sweet crust is folded inward at each edge. It gives the tart a more artisanal, which means rustic in French, and free-form look than other regular pies.

I made the dough with polenta to give it a more crumbly texture and flavored it with star anise. I used fresh ginger and Meyer lemon for the filling in addition to the blueberries.

Apricot Tart with Almond Cream and Kaffir Lime Ginger Glaze Recipe

I was in the mood to bake today. I thought about making apple tartes amandines but everyone said they were bored with this flavor. So to please the whole house, I paired the almond cream with fresh ripe apricots. In France, you would order "une tarte amandine aux abricots, s'il vous plait!" in a patisserie (bakery). You probably won't learn this phrase in any French for tourists books, but I'm telling you, it's essential for your survival .

For the glaze, I had Laura's apricot pie jelly, a few kaffir lime leaves left that I did not used for my sweet and sour pineapple soup and some fresh ginger. It gave a nice kick to the apricot.

I know what you're going to say about my family. How spoiled are they?

How to make a perfect sweet French crepe batter Recipe

There is almost nothing as quintessentially French as crêpes. For those who don't know, a crêpe is a very thin pancake.  It is perfect for a quick dessert, or for a savory meal. I make them whenever I'm missing France.

Today I was in the mood for something sweet. If, like me, you're craving for something sweet, make some crêpes. Generously stuff the crêpe with fruits (blueberries, strawberries, canned peaches), jam and whipped cream, just sprinkle some plain sugar or spread Nutella inside the crêpe. Yum!

Pandan and Coconut Brioche Recipe

Pandan and Coconut Brioche

05.28.09 by timran

Brioche is a French bread made out of eggs and butter. I remember every morning getting a brioche from the neighborhood bakery when I was a student in Paris. It tastes very buttery, slightly sweet and it has a fluffy texture.

I made some pizza today and I had some dry active yeast left. We got some Asian powdered coconut candies from the Asian market and I had a few knick-knacks like pandan paste from the pantry. I haven't baked in a while so I decided to make something original and give a twist to the traditional brioche.

Butterscotch Creme Brulee Recipe

Butterscotch Creme Brulee

Crème brulées, though tasty by themselves, are a perfect palette for other flavors. My husband Lulu loves butterscotch, so I came to the fairly obvious conclusion that I should combine the two of them.

If you're not a big fan of butterscotch, you can substitute any other flavor that you like but you have to balance the sweetness of the dessert.
