Lemon Creme Brulee

The creme brulee is a classic French dessert. The base is just your average  custard, but you can add your own twist to it by using different chocolate chips  (milk, dark, white, butterscotch, peanut butter, lemon, mint) or by adding an  extract to the vanilla chips (rose, pandan, peppermint, mocha). It is a true  culinary chameleon.  

What really sets the creme brulee apart though is the crunch when you break  through the burnt sugar crust. I think that's what truly gives it its status and  sophistication. It somehow brings a smile to your face, no matter how old you  are. It reminds me of the scene in Amelie when she breaks through the crust and grins.

Tarte Amandine (Apple Tart with Almond Cream) Recipe

Happy New Year! My resolution for year 2009 is to post a new recipe everyday. I decided to start with a tarte amandine because one of the main components of the dish is frangipane, a buttery almond filling. I'm originally from France and frangipane figures heavily into the traditional cake, called Galette des Rois (litterally Kings' Cake), which is served in the month of January to commemorate the Christian Holiday of Epiphany.

The first time we attempted to make soy nog, it came out way to thick so my husband suggested that we make ice cream out of it. Most ice cream after all are just frozen custard. To turn this into a frozen treat, we really upped all the flavors to counteract the effects that cold food has on our ability to taste. Enjoy!

Pandan Pistachio White Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

No one can argue with the fact that American cookies are the best. When I lived in Paris and came to the US, I kept bringing a ton of American cookies home to my friends and relatives. Cookies are always a nice treat no matter the age of the cookie monster or the occasion being celebrated. We thought Santa would appreciate and taste some of our homemade cookies with an exotic twist  (pandan extract) for a change.

Today is Christmas Eve and the girls decided we would leave some milk and cookies for Santa tonight. My little munchkin thinks she'll get more presents this way.
