Vegetarian Hot and Sour Soup Recipe Recipe

Hot and sour soup is a wonderful first course. It's bursting with strong flavors such as kaffir lime leaves, chiles and lime juice. To balance the dish, cubes of silken  tofuwater chestnuts and  wood ear mushrooms are added. I also thickened the broth with tapioca starch.

The girls and I are still keeping up with our daily workout routine, starting in the wee hours of the morning while the baby is sleeping. After completing our exercise, we all discuss what the menu of the day is going to be. Fun time!

Strawberry Kiwi Smoothie Recipe

I can't believe almost half of 2012 has already passed by and now we're already in June! After having my wonderful daughter, finishing my first cookbook (which by the way is already available for pre-order and will be released December 18th) and finally becoming an American citizen, my husband Lulu thought I deserved a little celebratory vacation to Yountville in the Napa Valley. Even though it's a short ride from our house, I made small energy drinks before hitting the road to enjoy during the drive.

The drink is a blend of strawberries, raspberries, kiwis, peanuts and vanilla extract. The fruit gives you an instant energy boost, and the protein in the peanuts will keep you going longer than your average smoothie. It's a delicious and healthy way to start the day!

Natural Protein Shake Recipe (Smoothie) Recipe

This drink is made with mango purée, orange juice and a banana. The banana gives a smooth texture to the drink; cooked mung beans add protein and tie the flavors together.

I've read that eating breakfast is one of the keys to successfully losing weight. Since I've been waking up at the wee hours of the morning to work out for 45 minutes before starting the day, I want to stack the deck in my favor. A protein shake is the perfect choice for me because I'm not very big on breakfast (unless it's crêpes!).

Canh Tan O Recipe (Vietnamese Chrysanthemum and Shrimp Soup) Recipe

Canh tần ô is a very common Vietnamese soup. It consists of chrysanthemum leaves and shrimp balls in a thin broth. It's a very healthy, light meal. I added a few scoops of steamed jasmine brown rice to make the meal complete. 

I'm giving losing the baby weight another go, and this is my "day 1" meal. Wish me luck!

Poached Pears in Chocolate Sauce Recipe

Miniature Forelle pears are poached in spiced syrup made of candied ginger and various other spices. Once softened, the pears are covered with chocolate sauce. 

I prepared the pears a day in advance and the chocolate sauce was made at the very last minute. It took me probably 5 minutes tops. Everyone was pleased, the cook included! The small size of this dessert makes it a perfect finish to a heavy meal.
