Pumpkin Banana Cupcake Recipe

Little Aria asked to see one of her favorite classmates, Colin, on a playdate. Aria can be very detail-oriented and asked if we could prepare mini cupcakes for the occasion. To make the sweet treat a lot more playful for the children, I topped the cupcakes with icing and sugar cookie letters.

The cake part is made with mashed bananas and pumpkin and I used an alphabet cookie cutter set. Aria helped out all through the baking process and she loved it. Colin loved the cupcakes too, and I was amazed to see he knew his alphabet as well. Isn't it impressive at only the tender age of three? It was so precious to watch them have so much fun!

I'm planning to bake the same larger-version cupcakes on Thursday

Banana French Toast Cupcake Recipe Recipe

Pain perdu (French toast) is my way to save day-old bread but today I added a twist to my plain recipe. I turned it into pain perdu cupcakes and flavored them with bananas and figs. To give them a unique flavoring, I used fennel seeds, which pair incredibly well with the ripe fruits. 

I'm preparing for an upcoming food project these days (I'll tell you more about it soon) that requires focusing on bread, so we end up with loads of untouched baguettes. Given my aversion to waste, this dessert hits the spot. Pain perdu literally translates to "lost bread” and I can assure you that none of it was lost!

S'more-Inspired Dessert Recipe

I'm not sure  who  invented the s'more dessert or when. What I do know is it's an abbreviation for "some more". 

It's our family's tradition to light a camp fire right after using our barbecue. Since my childhood friend Alexia and her family are visiting from Paris, I wanted to give them the very American experience of molten marshmallows tucked with a piece of chocolate in between graham crackers. 

We had leftover marshmallows, so I made a variation, an "indoor" s'more, combining a vanilla cake, marshmallow, peanut butter, raspberry liqueur, chocolate and a few dried fruits. My guests did, indeed, ask for some more!

Deconstructed Cherry Pistachio Trifle Recipe Recipe

This is my artsy interpretation of a deconstructed trifle. We had lovely guests flying in from Atlanta and I wanted to finish our meal with a wow factor. I displayed a wide array of colors using pistachios and cherries (the first ones harvested from our garden). 

The cake portion of the dessert is an almond croquant. The thick custard was made with vanilla beans, sherry, mascarpone cheese and whipped cream. I also wanted to contrast the warmth from the croquant with Indian pistachio ice cream. The dessert was the perfect balance of flavor, texture and heat.
