How To Make Homemade Pie Crust in 3 Minutes (Video) Recipe

This is a quick and easy recipe to make your own pie crust. I usually have homemade dough stored in either my refrigerator or freezer for last-minute dinner items. You can use the dough for savory tarts, fruit pies or the crust for pecan squares just like those I prepared yesterday (I added 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar to the dough to sweeten the dessert a bit).

The proportions are great for a (9-inch) tart mold (I made an artichoke tart). If you don't have one, no worries; you can improvise a free-form galette without requiring any specific kitchen equipment.

For easier readability, I added the recipe in print below. So without further ado, here it is.

Pumpkin Banana Cupcake Recipe Recipe

Pumpkin Banana Cupcake Recipe

11.25.14 by Jackie

Little Aria asked to see one of her favorite classmates, Colin, on a playdate. Aria can be very detail-oriented and asked if we could prepare mini cupcakes for the occasion. To make the sweet treat a lot more playful for the children, I topped the cupcakes with icing and sugar cookie letters.

The cake part is made with mashed bananas and pumpkin and I used an alphabet cookie cutter set. Aria helped out all through the baking process and she loved it. Colin loved the cupcakes too, and I was amazed to see he knew his alphabet as well. Isn't it impressive at only the tender age of three? It was so precious to watch them have so much fun!

I'm planning to bake the same larger-version cupcakes on Thursday

Risotto with Collard Greens Recipe

Risotto with Collard Greens

11.20.14 by Jackie

The temperature has been dropping in the Bay Area. As the morning mist cleared, I decided to prepare comfort food for Aria's lunch today. I made a decadent risotto flavored with smoked Gouda, a bit of red bell pepper and collard greens. You would pobably never have paired adjectives such as luscious or decadent with healthful collard greens but this rice dish fulfilled my goal.

I got my little toddler to eat her vegetables and I'm delighted to see she actually enjoyed collard greens!

Thanksgiving Appetizer Ideas Recipe

Thanksgiving Appetizer Ideas

11.13.14 by Jackie

Our typical Thanksgiving starts with my husband Lulu watching the game, so we usually have a pre-Thanksgiving dinner with bite-sized portions before the Gargantuan feast. This year, Sunny will be back home from her college dorm and will be accompanied by her roomie, whose family lives on the East Coast. I'm sure serving appetizers to the two petite young ladies won't scare them away from our "real" Thanksgiving. I've listed a few appetizers I prepared over the years; I'm still not sure which ones will make it to the table in a few days. Happy planning!

Don't forget to take a look at my first cookbook "Haute Potato", which feature many recipes that are perfect for Thanksgiving. Two of my personal favorites are the potato cigars and the lavender and white chocolate potato torte. If you order the book today from Barnes and Noble, there's still a good chance it will arrive before Thanksgiving. And if not, it's packed with other great holiday recipes as well!

Thanksgiving Appetizers: Butternut Squash Tartlet Recipe Recipe

Thanksgiving festivities are right around the corner, so it's time to play with fall flavors. Today, I wanted to prepare a savory tart using butternut squash and finally decided to prepare individual portions because they would look even cuter and be easier to eat.

I made a regular butter crust, but I flavored it with green onions and sweet basil. I filled the mini tarts with creamed butternut squash. Then I balanced the texture with a lacy cheese topping by pan-frying slices of sharp Cheddar cheese. It was literally easy as pie.
