Matcha Green Tea Pot de Creme Recipe Recipe

We gave another dinner party last night. Daddy (my father-in-law) had new friends over; they're a delightful couple who recently moved from Boston to the Bay Area. We had a lovely, fairly light meal consisting of lots of seafood, such as crab cakes with muhammara (pomegranate sauce) accompanied by seafood Israeli couscous salad, then roasted Chilean seabass with homemade preserved citrus hollandaise sauce. I wanted to keep the same delicate mood for dessert, so I prepared lightly sweetened matcha green tea pot de creme. I believe that food should be a visual experience, so I decorated the sweet treats with whipped cream and fresh raspberries.

I was so excited to have been given a tin of matcha green tea powder in my Christmas stocking stuffer and couldn't wait to make use of the unique, distinctive flavor of this tea. Its lovely, natural jade color is very subtle, but subtlety can actually be quite a stimulating experience for the palate.

Triple Chocolate Mousse Recipe

This whimsical chocolate dessert marks the onset of the holiday season. The sweet treat consists of espresso dark chocolate, orange and salted caramel milk chocolate layers. If you omit the garnish, you'll notice that the dessert is egg-free and gluten-free.

Having an almost 3-year old at home is a constant reminder that I need to get prepared to celebrate Halloween. We've gone through so many costume ideas already, I wonder which one Aria will finally agree on when the times comes! For this dessert, I prepared three different flavors of chocolate mousse. The mousse required very few ingredients: milk, whipping cream, butter, sugar and of course chocolate (the star of this sweet treat!).

Cardamom Chocolate Mousse topped with Meringue Cookies Recipe

This elegant chocolate dessert might seem complicated but it really wasn't. First I prepared a cardamom-flavored chocolate mousse. The mousse required very few ingredients: milk, whipping cream, butter, sugar and of course cardamom and chocolate (the stars of this sweet treat!). You'll notice no eggs were used in this step.

The second step is the meringue cookie topping. You can prepare the meringues way in advance and assemble the dessert at the last minute. The meringues provided a nice contrast of texture against the velvety chocolate mousse, as well a striking contrast of color.

Coffee Pot de Creme Recipe

This week has gone by so fast. And it's already that time of the week when I share another dessert recipe with you. I prepared a French dessert I make often during the winter season because it doesn't require any fruit. I simply raided my pantry and used vanilla beans, instant coffee and Kahlúa, which is a coffee-flavored, rum-based liqueur. Yes, you probably already guessed it; I prepared pot de creme.

I love how easy and simple they are to make. The texture is velvety and lightly sweetened. In my opinion, pots de crème are the quintessential representation of decadence one can find in French desserts.

Apricot Pot de Creme Recipe Recipe

Apricot Pot de Creme Recipe

When Lulu and I attended my older sister's wedding in 2007 in Paris, I recall the most delicious store-bought dairy dessert I discovered at my very dear friend Nathalie’s house. We had a lovely dinner and finished the meal with Bonne Maman brand miniature jars of petits pots de crème. But unlike the ones I usually prepare, these pots de crème had a much heavier, thicker, smooth and creamy texture. Unfortunately, this product has been discontinued; Lulu and I searched for it during our most recent trip to France without success.

This is my attempt to recreate that lovely French dessert. The dessert is made with a lot of white chocolate, a fair amount of heavy cream, butter and eggs. I flavored it with apricots from our garden and amaretto to enhance the apricot flavor.

I served the dessert with a fresh fruit salad and a small scoop of rum raisin ice cream for a little temperature and texture contrast.
