Mandarin Chocolate Mousse Filled Crepe Recipe Recipe

Last night was our first formal dinner party since the New Year and I wanted to add a little wow factor to the end of the meal. I prepared a mandarin-flavored dark chocolate mousse and enclosed it in the cutest little crêpe purses.

The decadence didn’t stop there, as I garnished the purses with chocolate puffed rice "hung" up high on a spun sugar stick. A little drizzle of coffee-liqueur chocolate sauce finished off the dessert and guaranteed that it would satisfy even the biggest chocoholic's cravings.

I'm starting to plan out what could amaze my Valentine in a few weeks and I know for sure my husband Lulu would be more than delighted that we end our Valentine's Day romantic dinner feeding each other chocolate! Check back for more ideas.

Masala Chai Eggnog Recipe Recipe

Masala Chai Eggnog Recipe

12.11.12 by Jackie

This weekend, in the spirit of the holidays, we wanted to make some eggnog. We’ve made eggnog and "soynog" so many times before that it seemed like time to mix it up a little. If you're a regular reader, you might know how much I love masala chai. I'm a weakling when it comes to caffeine but once in a while, especially when we have large family gatherings, we make loads of the fragrant chai and I just can't resist sipping a few cups. So why not combine the two?

Eggnog already has nutmeg, so adding the spices used in masala chai just enhances the flavor. The cardamom in particular really shines through. If you're adventurous (and not making this for kids), you could also spike it with a little rum or cognac.

Banana and Fig Crepe Cake Recipe Recipe

Since I'm in Paris, I’ve been spoiling my little 2-year-old nephew Paul and 4-year-old niece Elise with sweets. It’s a great way to bond with them in a short period of time. Crêpes are always fun, so I made a pile for all of us to share, along with various jams, Nutella, honey and powdered sugar. In addition to the individual crêpes, I made mini crêpe cakes, filled with fig and banana jam. To repeat the flavors in the dessert, I topped the cake with freeze-dried banana chips and roasted figs.

The most fun part of the assembly was watching Elise and Paul eating the crêpes as I was making them. Lucky me, I still had enough crêpe batter to finish the dessert. I absolutely adore them!

Double Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies Recipe

If you love chocolate and hazelnuts, you're going to love these cookies I just created. Sunny, my husband's oldest sister (she's 16 now), promised her girlfriends she would bring some sweet treats to share with them at school, so I helped her out by making these decadent French-inspired cookies.

Nutella serves as the base of the cookies, to which I added a layer of homemade hazelnut cream (frangipane-style) and a smattering of mini-chocolate chips.

The cookies come out of the oven chewy, soft and sweet. And of course, irresistible!

Our friends over at Nuts About Granola are featuring my Hawaiian-inspired granola bars on the new packaging of their Granola Basics and at the same time are giving away 3 copies of my upcoming book, Haute Potato, to their readers. Peach Macadamia Tart Recipe Recipe

Peach Macadamia Tart Recipe

08.24.12 by Jackie

Since making the Hawaiian-inspired granola bars (by the way, don't forget to enter this week's Nuts About Granola giveaway that ends on Monday; fill in the box below ), I've been cooking with macadamias, which I love. Macadamia nuts have a rich, creamy taste and I thought they would pair incredibly well with the very last white peaches from our garden.

I improvised on my standard tart recipe and created a creamy tart composed of a macadamia nut crust and macadamia and peach custard. I sweetened the dessert with smoked sugar from our friends at Bourbon Barrel. When served slightly warm with Häagen-Dazs macadamia nut brittle ice cream, seriously, who could resist?

Whenever we have guests over, which we do frequently, I like to serve sweets. People can always make room for dessert and it's usually the thing people remember the most. This one will definitely make an impression!
