Turmeric Latte Recipe Recipe

Turmeric Latte Recipe

03.06.14 by Jackie

As I've mentioned in the past, turmeric is known as a healing spice in traditional Chinese medicine. However, you don't need to feel weak to enjoy this delicious hot drink. I was able to buy fresh turmeric root at a local Indian market a few months ago and I've stored it in the freezer since then. After going through our freezer today, I decided make good use of it and prepared a turmeric latte. It's so delicious, soothing and relaxing, especially with the weather we've been having.

You could prepare this drink with the milk of your choice. If you decide to go with a lower calorie milk such as almond or cashew milk, you could add a bit of coconut cream, oil or ghee (Indian clarified butter) to the turmeric. A little bit goes a long way but it makes such a difference and adds extra oomph.

Cookie Butter Blondie Bars Recipe

Cookie Butter Blondie Bars

02.24.14 by Jackie

This is my upscale version of a PB&J sandwich. Instead of using good ol' peanut butter, I used speculoos spread (fancy word for gingerbread cookie butter) and I skipped the bread and prepared blondies mixed with honey-roasted peanuts. As for the jelly part, I used a combination of crushed fresh blackberries and fig spread I prepared last Fall from the figs in our garden.

Every weekend, I try to get the girls involved in the kitchen by preparing a large brunch together. It's a great way for our family to catch up with each other's busy lives. In my opinion, food is a great tool for bonding and sharing memories.

As expected, these cookie butter bars were a (fig and blackberry-flavored) smashing success (no pun intended) for both kids and grownups!

Cocoa Carrot and Earl Grey Cupcakes Recipe

Sometimes I'm inspired by a fabulous meal at a restaurant, a dish on tv, or something that a friend whips up. Other times, like today, I find ingredients in front of me that I have to put to use. This recipe definitely falls into the latter category. I was determined to use the shredded carrots that remained from my morning freshly-pressed carrot juice. I decided to combine them with cocoa and Earl Grey tea and make earthy, complex cupcakes.

I think the combination worked beautifully. My husband Lulu loves tea so I wanted to incorporate this ingredient in the sweets. I used it as the icing of mini-cupcakes.

Cooking is an expression of love, so it doesn't matter how elaborate your dish is or how many hours you devote to it, what's really important is the matter in which you prepare it. Put your heart and soul into cooking, and I guarantee you that those who will enjoy the product of your efforts will appreciate it.

Pineapple Carrot Cake Recipe Recipe

Pineapple Carrot Cake Recipe

01.10.14 by Jackie

Since the New Year, I took our juicer out and it's been sitting on the counter so we can have freshly-made juice every day. Today I extracted juice from carrots, and since I hate wasting, I used the carrot shreds and baked a cake.

To ensure the cake was moist, I added crushed pineapple (I regularly cut whole fresh pineapple as a snack) and used creme fraiche that my friend Steve from the Milk Pail in Mountain View gave us. Steve just introduced me to a new product his friend Warren from Snowville Creamery from Ohio sent over. It’s amazing! If you’re in the Bay Area, definitely take some time to visit the Milk Pail and try out some of the unique products only they carry.

Salted Caramel Milk Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe Recipe

I haven't been active for the past week on PhamFatale.com. We've spent a crazy holiday season, baking a ton! Here's one of the many chocolate chip cookie versions we made during the week. We used chocolate we received over Christmas, so these feature M&Ms and chunks of coarsely chopped Godiva salted caramel milk chocolate bars.

The secret to perfect texture for this timeless classic is to closely watch the baking time. Don't over-bake them but also don't under-cook them or you'll end up with just cookie dough! Happy baking!
