Triple Chocolate Mousse Recipe Recipe

Triple Chocolate Mousse Recipe

10.10.14 by Jackie

This whimsical chocolate dessert marks the onset of the holiday season. The sweet treat consists of espresso dark chocolate, orange and salted caramel milk chocolate layers. If you omit the garnish, you'll notice that the dessert is egg-free and gluten-free.

Having an almost 3-year old at home is a constant reminder that I need to get prepared to celebrate Halloween. We've gone through so many costume ideas already, I wonder which one Aria will finally agree on when the times comes! For this dessert, I prepared three different flavors of chocolate mousse. The mousse required very few ingredients: milk, whipping cream, butter, sugar and of course chocolate (the star of this sweet treat!).

Baking Cookies is So Much Fun Recipe

Baking Cookies is So Much Fun

09.12.14 by Jackie

I love baking cookies. I find it so therapeutic. I think what I enjoy most is the simple thrill of watching the person I baked the cookies for enjoying them.

The reason I haven't published any recipe for the last few days is because I've been a busy bee, traveling to  Los Angeles for a press day. If you follow the blog, you probably know I finished filming the pilot of my first cooking series. I'm so excited! I'll tell you more about the events I attended soon.

At this moment, I'm still in LA, waiting for my batch of signature cookies (the ones flavored with pandan). But for now, I wanted to share some of the cookies I've prepared over the years. Enjoy!

Back-to-School Dessert Suggestions Recipe

Even though school started a week ago, Aria is having a hard time adjusting to this new transition in her life. She is beginning to understand the emotions she's feeling but still has very little control over them. Every time I drop her off in the morning, she sobs uncontrollably because she wants to "stay and play with Maman Kiki," and that is hard to watch. She's the only child who sheds tears in the morning now; it's somehow embarrassing! On the other hand, I've noticed she asks to dress herself and puts her shoes on by herself now. After a few days at school, she's already tending to be more independent. We encourage her and try to make preschool a very positive experience.

As a new mom, I try to come up with new ideas when I pick her up from school. On the first day, I showed up with a giant "smiley face" helium balloon, I also bought new Dr, Seuss books and took her to her favorite book store afterward. But her favorite of all is the snack / desserts I prepare for her. I made a list of the treats and I hope this inspires you to create a similar dish if your child experiences the same reactions as my little Aria. Have a wonderful weekend!

Vegan Panna Cotta Recipe Recipe

Vegan Panna Cotta Recipe

08.29.14 by Jackie

Panna cotta is a dessert we often ate during our Italian vacation last month. It consists of a combination of cream, milk, sugar and gelatin, which is the key ingredient for binding and thickening the dessert. My husband Lulu, who's a vegetarian, is still on a diet and has been working hard to shed the last few pounds, so I prepared my own version to suit his dietary needs.

Agar agar (made from seaweed) is a great vegan substitute for gelatin. I used hazelnut milk to replace the cream and milk and Manuka honey as the sweetener.

To give an appealing look to the dessert, I served it with red currants ("Corinthes rouges" in French) for a striking contrast in color. The reasoning behind the hazelnut milk is that historically, panna cotta was eaten with fruit and hazelnuts.
