Coffee Pot de Creme Recipe

This week has gone by so fast. And it's already that time of the week when I share another dessert recipe with you. I prepared a French dessert I make often during the winter season because it doesn't require any fruit. I simply raided my pantry and used vanilla beans, instant coffee and Kahlúa, which is a coffee-flavored, rum-based liqueur. Yes, you probably already guessed it; I prepared pot de creme.

I love how easy and simple they are to make. The texture is velvety and lightly sweetened. In my opinion, pots de crème are the quintessential representation of decadence one can find in French desserts.

Oeuf Mollet (Soft-Boiled Egg Recipe) Recipe

After more than 10 years of knowing each other, my husband Lulu still reminds me how much I enjoy his sense of humor even though I often don't want to admit it. Yesterday, he came to me and said from now on, after much thought, he has decided to incorporate animal protein into his vegetarian diet. I got really excited, and naively, I prepared oeufs mollets (French for soft-boiled eggs) for him. It took exactly six minutes to prepare. Lulu looked at the eggs and said: "Nah. April Fools!"

It wasn't a big deal because Aria and I ended up eating the eggs. They were delicious, especially because they were freshly laid. The preparation is very easy. Start by quickly boiling the eggs, then peel and serve them on a bed of béchamel-topped spinach and asparagus.

I'll post another preparation that's as simple as oeufs mollets, where the eggs are boiled for an even shorter amount of time. They're called "oeufs à la coque".

Pumpkin Creme Caramel Recipe

If you saw last week's dessert recipe, you know I made a French-style pumpkin flan for my husband Lulu. He had asked me to make a flan, which in his mind meant crème caramel, but instead I made a flan pâtissier (French pie crust with pumpkin custard). I always try to keep my promises, so here's the pumpkin crème caramel, which Lulu loved.

His favorite part is the caramel at the bottom of the cup. You could serve it as is, or flip the dessert onto a plate so the caramel drips all over the "flan". I photographed it in both serving styles so you can decide which you prefer.

Three days to Thanksgiving (or four days to Black Friday, depending on your priorities )!

Tomato Crostini with Anchoiade

After Mike from New West KnifeWorks sent me their 9-inch Chef Fusionwood knife, I went on a crazy chopping spree. Just like many of their knives, which are, by the way, all manufactured here in the US, this Chef knife is pretty nifty. I chopped a tomato medley (Heirloom peach tomatoes, yellow pear tomatoes, sweet 100 and San Marzano tomatoes) with a few grapes from our garden. With the razor-sharp blade, I was able to comfortably cut all the fruits. I quickly sautéed them in garlic with roasted green bell peppers and sweet peppers that my husband Lulu planted several months ago. I used the mixture as a topping for crostini and finished them with Manzanilla green olives wrapped in anchovies.

Shrimp Crostini with Saffron Aioli (+Saffron Giveaway) Recipe

This is a recipe that combines two of my favorite ingredients: shrimp and saffron. Specifically, I made a shrimp crostini with saffron aïoli. I flavored the mayonnaise with garlic and freshly ground saffron threads. I placed the shrimp on a bed of toasted bread to create a nice contrast of texture. The taste of the saffron is so intense in the aïoli sauce that it feels almost sinful.
