Papaya Roasted Fennel Pasta Recipe Recipe

This is another dish I prepared during our Roman holiday. I used "artigiano pastaio"-type pasta (prepared by an "artisan expert"). I selected farfalle, the kind shaped like a bow, and used them as a main dish. I flavored them with thinly-sliced fennel bulb and ripe papaya.

The preparation is fairly simple. I roasted fennel that I coated in papaya and ginger purée, then added the  vegetable to the pasta. The licorice flavor from the fennel and the natural sweetness from the papaya created a unique, extraordinary-tasting, delectable pasta dish.

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto Recipe Recipe

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto Recipe

06.09.14 by Jackie

I feel super lucky to live in the Bay Area; there's such an abundance of incredible ingredients. The wide range of gourmet mushrooms available at my local market, The Milk Pail of Mountain View, makes me giddy.

The possibilities when presented with such fine ingredients are nearly endless.  I could have prepared a simple, flavorful omelet, but I decided to go for a more delicate dish: vegetarian risotto.

To do so, I used whatever the Milk Pail carried on that particular day (I didn't select everything because  the prices of some of the mushrooms gave me the chills). In the end, I included fresh morels, maitake mushrooms, Hegehogs and brown crimini mushrooms. I loved how this gastronomical adventure was able to please and feed my loved ones!

Lavender Grilled Chicken Recipe Recipe

Lavender Grilled Chicken Recipe

06.03.14 by Jackie

We recently threw a barbecue dinner, and as I mentioned in last week's video, we grow all sorts of lavender. I made a marinade for chicken legs with lavender honey, lemon juice, herbes de Provence, dry sherry, garlic and soy sauce and used half of it for the glaze.

The glaze was thickened with tapioca starch; I used it as soon as the grill marks were visible on the chicken. I reinforced the lavender flavor with soaked sprigs of lavender. If you don't have fresh lavender, fresh rosemary would work fine too.

Making eggrolls (chả giò) isn't complicated as it seems. Once you master the art of rolling, you'll see how fairly simple the preparation is. The meat filling is mixed raw and then is transferred to an assembly line for folding and frying. You could make them with a vegetarian filling as well.

Zucchini and Pea Soup Recipe

05.08.14 by Jackie

The weather isn't as warm these days compared to last week. I prepared a hearty soup made exclusively of vegetables I was able to harvest from our garden, except for the canned pinto beans.

Harvesting ingredients planted by the girls, Lulu and even baby Aria made me proud. They appreciate that we get to grow organic fruits and vegetables. So far we have been able to eat strawberries, Creole onions, green onions, zucchini, peas and the first tomatoes that have started peaking. Can't wait to see what the rest of the season will have for us!
