Bourbon and Caramel Tiramisu Recipe Recipe

Tiramisu is one of our family's favorite desserts. In the past, I've made individual servings in cups as well as larger cakes. I've also played around with the flavor combinations. This time around, I prepared a tiramisu with salted caramel and Bourbon. For the cookie part of the tiramisu, I used liquor-soaked bite-sized wafers.

The result is an airy, delightful mousse with a hint of alcohol, which makes the perfect sophisticated dessert for adults.

Homemade Vegetable Soup Recipe Recipe

Homemade Vegetable Soup Recipe

11.01.12 by Jackie

My husband Lulu has been stuck in bed for the last 2 days because of a bad cough. I made a comforting vegetable soup to soothe his throat. The ingredients of the soup are pretty standard. I used leeks, carrots, turnips, oregano, green onions, green peas and potatoes. For added crunch, saltiness and as a reminder of the flavoring in the soup, I topped the soup with fried green peas.

When I became a mom, I told myself I wouldn't become the kind of annoying mother, oversharing baby photos. So with that in mind, here's a really cute picture of my daughter Aria in her first Halloween costume. Isn't she a cutie pie?

Please Donate: Help Hurricane Sandy Victims! Recipe
Our friend Steve from the Milk Pail was one of the sponsors at this morning's American Red Cross Community Heroes Breakfast event at Santa Clara Convention Center. It was very nice and we were introduced to Alejandro Garcia, our "Hero" of the Day, who recently showed courage by saving someone's life by performing CPR. The work of the American Red Cross is always relevant in our lives, but it is brought into stark relief by the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Bun Cari Ga Recipe (Vietnamese Chicken Curry) Recipe

Chicken curry is the kind of meal I love when the weather is getting chilly. The subtle heat from the wide range of spices such as cloves, cardamom, green Serrano chiles, curry leaves and nuoc mam is very pleasant, and the gravy is so satisfying when paired with bún (Vietnamese rice vermicelli noodles). The noodles soak up all the delicious flavors from the gravy.

I also love the fact that the dish uses chicken drumsticks because they're not too big, not too dry and they cook relatively fast. That’s a lot of love in one dish!

Avocado and Persimmon Salad Recipe Recipe

This colorful salad was inspired by my daughter Aria's godmother Nathalie. Not only is Nathalie a wonderful godmother to my baby girl, but she's also an amazing cook. While we were in Paris, Nathalie invited us several times for dinner and made a feast every single time for us. We were so spoiled!

One of our favorite dishes that she made for us was an avocado and Hachiya persimmon salad. Persimmons, when ripe, have a vibrant orange color, making them perfect for Halloween. In case you were confused, the Hachiya variety is the soft one, with the pointed end. They are irresistible when extremely ripe, but basically inedible before that point. I always ripen the fruit in a paper bag with apples or bananas (or both).

The creamy avocado slices are the perfect contrast to the brightness of the persimmons. To finish the salad, I added spicy sprouts and slightly toasted pine nuts for texture. I think it's the perfect salad for a Halloween party, and I hope you do too!

A special note to all those affected by Hurricane Sandy: I hope everyone is staying safe. The American Red Cross is taking donations now to help the victims of the hurricane. They are also asking for blood donations, so if you're able to, please participate.
