Dau Hu Rang Muoi Recipe (Vietnamese Tofu) Recipe

Đậu hũ rang muối is probably my husband Lulu's favorite preparation for tofu. It literally translates to "toasted tofu in salt crust". Indeed, large pieces of silken tofu are covered in tapioca starch, then deep-fried. Finally, a quick stir fry of green onions, freshly sliced red Thai chiles and salt complete the dish.

The simplicity of this dish is what is remarkable about the versatility of tofu. A drizzle of soy sauce and the addition of freshly steamed jasmine rice makes the most delicious meal. Who could ever say tofu is bland and tasteless?

Lunar New Year: Taro Cake Recipe Recipe

Remember I shared my crab cake recipe as a party food idea for the Super Bowl? Well, I developed a vegetarian version for my husband Lulu as well. I mixed shredded taro roots and rice and added green peas for extra color. Visually, they looked pretty similar to crab cakes, and their texture resembled the "real thing" too. The only difference, which you probably already guessed is the taste. But Lulu doesn't like crab, so that's a good thing!

Check back this entire week for my vegetarian dishes in preparation of Tết, the Asian New Year celebration.

Tet Celebrations: Canh Hoanh Thanh (Wonton Soup Recipe) Recipe

This week marks the beginning of the Tết celebrations. A tradition of Tết is that you eat vegetarian (ăn chay) on the last day of the previous year and first day of Asian New Year, so I decided this week I will be sharing several vegetarian Vietnamese dishes with you until the celebration commences this weekend.

I haven't made wonton soup (canh hoành thánh in Vietnamese) in a while, which is a shame because it's not all that complicated. The filling consists of carrots, tofu, chestnuts, green onions, wood ear mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms. I also made a simple broth to let the flavorful vegetarian dumplings be the shining stars.

Crepe Party Recipe

Crepe Party

02.02.13 by Jackie

Today (February 2nd) is a popular French celebration called La Chandeleur (also known as Christian holiday Candlemas). How do you celebrate it, you ask? You eat crêpes, ton of crêpes.

I prepared 3 large batches of crêpe batter (click the link for the recipe) last night and let the girls toss so they can prepare their own version by laying down multiple filling options on the kitchen counter. Sprinkling crêpes with sugar can be sufficient but is not at all  necessary; the possibilities are truly endless. I've gathered a few ideas for you to try. Bon appétit!
