Butternut Squash Potato Mash Recipe Recipe

After roasting butternut squash yesterday to flavor a fromage blanc spread, I came up with a another dish where this method would be applicable. I mixed the roasted butternut squash into a simple potato mash. The subtle sweetness, the color; everything about this side dish screams Thanksgiving.

If you're planning a potato feast for Thanksgiving, I strongly suggest (shameless plug) that you try recipes from my first cookbook, Haute Potato. You'll find all sorts of dishes ranging from luxurious lobster chowder, delicious samosas to gourmet potato desserts. If you order it on Amazon or Barnes and Noble now, it should arrive before the holiday!

Butternut Squash Polenta Appetizers Recipe

If you're putting together a more elegant Thanksgiving meal this year, consider these appetizers. They are a great conversation starter. The appetizers connect familiar holiday ingredients--roasted butternut squash and corn--in a wholly unique way.

The primary ingredient in the appetizer is a mash of butternut squash and fromage blanc. I nested the spread in a roll of grilled zucchini on top of pan-fried polenta medallions. For a nice contrast of texture and color, I garnished the elegant appetizers with honey-roasted nuts and a sprinkling of Italian parsley.

I'm planning on serving 5 or 6 appetizers on Thanksgiving and will be sharing them as I make them throughout the month.

Cranberry Jam Buttercream Cake Recipe Recipe

I can't believe it's already the weekend! And you know what this means: it's that time of the week when I bake sweets. I got the recipe for today’s dessert from the amazing Gesine Bullock-Prado's book, “Bake It Like You Mean It”. I prepared two génoise cakes, and once they came out of the oven, I drizzled them with a bit of rum, then let them cool to room temperature. The next steps were to prepare the frosting of the cake and chocolate decoration.

To be in tune with the upcoming Thanksgiving season, I made a cranberry jam buttercream frosting, which is ultra easy. I know I'm not a professional baker just by looking at the photo but there were at least three good things I could comment about: the cake definitely looked homemade, I used a pretty serving platter to counteract the aesthetic of the cake, and most important, it tasted divine. Note to self: stick to cupcakes!

Pumpkin Cornbread Recipe Recipe

Pumpkin Cornbread Recipe

11.07.13 by Jackie

This pumpkin cornbread is so delicious, I promise, once you try it, this will become a staple for your Thanksgiving meal. There are a few key ingredients that make this cornbread sensational: pumpkin of course, buttermilk, brown sugar and semolina. I did use cornmeal but the semolina gives a little oomph to the texture and a nice crunchy outer layer.

You've probably noticed I've been baking a lot these days. The only downside to baking so much is I have all the girls staring at the oven, complaining and asking every minute when it's going to be ready. They end up not being able to focus on their homework because an intoxicating, Thanksgiving smell permeates every single room of our house!

Pumpkin Waffles: Thanksgiving-themed Breakfast Recipe Recipe

Waffles are always a hit at breakfast. And dressing them up with pumpkin is a wonderful way to celebrate Thanksgiving. I prepared my usual waffle batter, but this time, I added pumpkin purée, molasses and freshly grated cinnamon and nutmeg. I prepared several batches for tomorrow morning; it will be a great way for the family to start off the day.

In my opinion, a good dusting of powdered sugar and a nice hot cup of chai are all you need to enjoy these waffles. But I've reserved a little surprise for the family: I'll serve the waffles with candied pecans, whipped butter and hot syrup.
