Rum Raisin Ice Cream with Almond Chocolate Croquant

After dropping Aria at preschool the other morning, I had plenty of time once I got home. The ice cream maker had been sitting on out kitchen counter for the entire summer and I decided to use it one last time before it goes back to hibernation, just like a bear. 

I made a simple custard using whole milk and chilled it overnight. I churned the ice cream and finished it with rum soaked raisins. The result was silky and delicious but not too rich. 

I used a chocolate almond croquant as the "delivery device" and garnished the fancy dessert with golden kiwis and red currants.

Chocolate Blueberry Sable Cookie Recipe

Sablés are probably one of my favorite cookies. These crumbly cookies hail from France's Normandy region. They're sometimes served with fruit preserves or covered with chocolate, so I thought I'd combine the two and create this unique version with coarsely chopped Belgian chocolate and fresh blueberries.

The crisp, tender, crumbly and lightly sweetened cookies were so delicious the entire family wondered why I didn't bake more. So to fill this temporary void in our lives, I baked a second batch! Mission accomplished.

Apricot Dessert Cup Recipe

Growing your own fruit is such a blessing. Really the only inconvenience is when the birds beat you to the harvest. Our solution this year is our new puppy, Earnest Tofu. In addition to having our friendly family pet who's a wonderful deterrent for birds, squirrels and pests, we're able to pick the fruits when they're not fully ripened from the tree.  For optimum flavor, we speed up the process by placing them in a paper bag with a banana and an apple. Then every day I check their status; it takes patience to get to eat the most delicious fruits!

I was recently able to gather many apricots, so I made my favorite dessert to serve at our dinner social: dessert cups. I used chocolate rum sauce between layers of gingersnap cookies and apricot custard.

Our newest addition to the family (this was taken back in March). Earnest Tofu was named after Oscar Wilde's comedy (one of our family's favorites) and "Tofu" because most of our family members (except for baby Aria and me) are vegetarian!

Pandan Pistachio White Chocolate Chip Cookies (Video)

No one can argue with the fact that American cookies are the best. When I lived in Paris and came to the US, I kept bringing a ton of American cookies home to my friends and relatives. My childhood friend Alexia, who came to visit us this month, came home with 8 dozen of American cookies to gift to her relatives!

Cookies are always a nice treat no matter the age of the cookie monster or the occasion being celebrated. Several years, I came up with this new recipe for homemade cookies with an exotic twist  (pandan extract) for a change and they've become my signature cookies for special occasions. Follow the instructions from this video and you'll have our family's favorite French-Asian fusion cookies.

S'more-Inspired Dessert Recipe

I'm not sure  who  invented the s'more dessert or when. What I do know is it's an abbreviation for "some more". 

It's our family's tradition to light a camp fire right after using our barbecue. Since my childhood friend Alexia and her family are visiting from Paris, I wanted to give them the very American experience of molten marshmallows tucked with a piece of chocolate in between graham crackers. 

We had leftover marshmallows, so I made a variation, an "indoor" s'more, combining a vanilla cake, marshmallow, peanut butter, raspberry liqueur, chocolate and a few dried fruits. My guests did, indeed, ask for some more!
