Chocolate-Frosted Cupcakes Recipe

Chocolate-Frosted Cupcakes

This year, with little Aria attending preschool, the ideas about love have drastically changed and are far from the stuff of romantic comedies. I was talking about it with a girlfriend who has toddlers too. She was telling me that after having a 3-year-old and 4 month old, her husband agreed to get a toaster oven and she would get a vacuum for their Valentine's Day gifts. And now our preparations for Valentine's Day consist of DIY kids' arts and crafts and a lot of baking for Aria's friends. I prepared chocolate-frosted sweet treats this morning.

These are just the right size for little fingers to enjoy, but you can of course make them bigger if they're for your own Valentine's celebration. The chocolate isn't cloyingly sweet, which means you can enjoy more than one!

Chocolate Snowflake Crinkle Cookies Recipe

Chocolate Snowflake Crinkle Cookies

If you have a toddler at home, odds are you have heard about Disney’s musical Frozen and all of the fun characters featured in the film. I made the mistake of purchasing the DVD so we watch it all the time. Our little Aria identifies herself as Princess Anna and we got a little Frozen-themed apron for her to help me out in the kitchen.

Aria has been determined to prepare a snowflake sweet treat so I doubled her pleasure by baking crinkle cookies using chocolate. The fudge-like cookies are covered in powdered sugar with a beautifully crinkled top once baked. Making the cookie batter isn't complicated but the hardest part was to teach my little one patience, as it's best chilled overnight before slipping into the oven.

Baking Cookies is So Much Fun Recipe

Baking Cookies is So Much Fun

I love baking cookies. I find it so therapeutic. I think what I enjoy most is the simple thrill of watching the person I baked the cookies for enjoying them.

The reason I haven't published any recipe for the last few days is because I've been a busy bee, traveling to  Los Angeles for a press day. If you follow the blog, you probably know I finished filming the pilot of my first cooking series. I'm so excited! I'll tell you more about the events I attended soon.

At this moment, I'm still in LA, waiting for my batch of signature cookies (the ones flavored with pandan). But for now, I wanted to share some of the cookies I've prepared over the years. Enjoy!

Sablés are probably one of my favorite cookies. These crumbly cookies hail from France's Normandy region. They're sometimes served with fruit preserves or covered with chocolate, so I thought I'd combine the two and create this unique version with coarsely chopped Belgian chocolate and fresh blueberries.

The crisp, tender, crumbly and lightly sweetened cookies were so delicious the entire family wondered why I didn't bake more. So to fill this temporary void in our lives, I baked a second batch! Mission accomplished.

Pandan Pistachio White Chocolate Chip Cookies (Video) Recipe

Pandan Pistachio White Chocolate Chip Cookies (Video)

No one can argue with the fact that American cookies are the best. When I lived in Paris and came to the US, I kept bringing a ton of American cookies home to my friends and relatives. My childhood friend Alexia, who came to visit us this month, came home with 8 dozen of American cookies to gift to her relatives!

Cookies are always a nice treat no matter the age of the cookie monster or the occasion being celebrated. Several years, I came up with this new recipe for homemade cookies with an exotic twist  (pandan extract) for a change and they've become my signature cookies for special occasions. Follow the instructions from this video and you'll have our family's favorite French-Asian fusion cookies.
