Pumpkin Pasta Sauce Recipe Recipe

Pumpkin Pasta Sauce Recipe

12.16.13 by Jackie

We spent a pretty low-key weekend, which is just what we needed after being so busy with holiday activities. I had time to do my favorite activity: cooking! I planned on making a fairly healthy meal of bow tie pasta covered in sauce.

I used fresh pumpkin and boiled it until very soft. I love all kinds of squash, including pumpkin, when they're in season. I almost never use the canned version, even for baking, unless I'm really running out of time.

For better visual appeal, I added finely-cut French green beans and sprinkled the top of the pasta dish with a little grated Dubliner for extra nuttiness.

Halloween Party Food Ideas Recipe

Halloween Party Food Ideas

Halloween is a few days away. My husband Lulu is going to be Batman, I'll put together a Robin costume for myself using a green skirt, red top, yellow belt and a black mask (I'm still not sure if people will know who I am) and Aria is going to be a white tiger. Since Halloween is going to be on a school night, we're not having a party and I'm not planning on cooking anything ghoulishly green or scary.

Nevertheless, we will definitely bake a lot. I re-created my delicious green pandan madeleine cookies and a few witch finger cookies. I've compiled a few other suggestions if you're planning Halloween-themed party food.

I love Halloween; it's an extra special holiday for Lulu and meI. We got married the day before Halloween and we'll be celebrating our 9th anniversary. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Jack O'Lantern Halloween Cookies Recipe

Jack O'Lantern Halloween Cookies

As usual, I prepared an enormous batch of sugar cookie dough in anticipation of Halloween. Making cookies in different shapes and sizes is a perfect way to celebrate the holiday. The recipe is ultra-simple, and all you need is quick and easy sugar cookie dough flavored with a bit of vanilla and a good, pointy paring knife.

These are simple pumpkin-shaped cookies. As soon as the girls got back from school, they designed their own decorations. Baby Aria and I preferred the ones without any additional icing or sprinkles but we still created facial features inside the cookies.

Spooky Halloween Beet Recipe Recipe

Spooky Halloween Beet Recipe

10.23.13 by Jackie

It's almost that time of the year again and I'm ready to prepare a horror-themed dinner for the end of the month. I concocted a gory-looking dish using the elegant combination of mozzarella, garbanzo beans and beets. I figured the color of the beets looked very similar to blood and I paired the dish with mozzarella and olives to resemble blood-shot eyes. Spooky!

First, I soaked garbanzo beans and shredded raw beets. I cooked them together until the legumes were softened enough to be crushed between my thumb and index finger. Once the beet dish was transferred to a serving platter, the finishing touch was adding creepy eyes made of cheese and olives. So it's not that difficult to feed your Halloween fun!
